HP’s long standing environmental policy is to provide products and services that are safe to use as intended and minimize environmental impact throughout the product’s lifecycle while improving our customer’s lives through technological innovation.

HP has taken a proactive approach to evaluating materials that pose an environmental, health, or safety risk. We may restrict substances because of customer preferences, legal requirements, or because we believe it is appropriate based on a precautionary approach. We strive to replace legally permitted materials when scientific data has established a potential health or environmental risk, and when less risky commercially viable alternatives are available. To help customers make an informed choice HP provides information on product attributes (see below). However, HP does not provide full product material content information for products.

HP Substance Information

  • HP’s General Specification for the Environment (GSE). Go to HP GSE . The GSE Substances and Materials Standard describes HP's global environmental requirements for restricting, prohibiting, or setting additional requirements for certain chemical compounds or materials in HP brand and HP owned brand products.

  • Substance declarations on products as required by Article 33 of the European Union’s chemical regulation REACH (Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 18 December 2006 concerning the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals). Go to: www.hp.com/go/reach.

  • HP has published a declaration of compliance to the European Union’s Directive 2011/65/EC, Restriction of Hazardous Substance (RoHS) criteria applicable to electronic products in various jurisdictions, such as the EU, China, South Korea, and Japan’s JISC-0950 material declaration standard. Go to: http://h20195.www2.hp.com/V2/GetDocument.aspx?docname=c04935876

  • HP actively identifies the materials and chemicals used in products, packaging, and manufacturing processes. We provide this information to customers, workers, communities, and other stakeholders so they can make informed decisions and reduce their own environmental impacts, subject to the need to protect confidential information for legitimate business needs and innovation. This document contains material content information for typical HP personal systems and printer products. See Material content of typical HP personal systems and printers.

  • Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for inks, toners, certain other supplies, and some batteries contained in HP products and accessories. The SDS contains safety information about materials such as physical, chemical and toxicological properties, regulatory information, and recommendations to ensure safe handling and disposal. Access: www.hp.com/go/msds

  • HP provides environmental profile sheets for many of its products. In addition, HP provides IT ECO declarations for its products in accordance with the standard developed by IT organizations in Sweden, Norway and Denmark. See: http://www.hp.com/hpinfo/globalcitizenship/environment/productdata/itecodesktop-pc.html.

HP has and will continue to participate in the development of global standards for the restriction of hazardous substances and is working with industry partners through several consortia to accelerate the industry’s transition to alternative materials. We believe harmonized global standards will create the greatest opportunity for consistency across all jurisdictions and provide a common base of understanding for all concerned.
